Oli Latham has helped us set up a new fund-raising initiative at the Club through a platform he runs called goalgiving. The platform is already used by The Lords Taverners, Leeds United and Harlequins Rugby Club.
In essence, the platform allows people to link fundraising to performance. It is a bit like the old-school sponsored swim – i.e. get people to sponsor you for every length you swim, but in this case it is for every run, wicket, catch, stumping or 50.
So, you can now help raise money for Little Hallingbury Cricket Club by gaining sponsors for your personal achievements on the field of play. We have a live page set up here: Club Together for LHCC - goalgiving
There are 2 ways you can help:
- Get some sponsors. Share the page with friends and family giving them an idea of how well you think you might perform (so they can set their price accordingly). You can look on the club website to see your average for 2019 (our last full season). I scored 237 runs, scored one 50 and didn’t take any catches or wickets. So, if I had been sponsored 10p per run, I would have raised £23.70 for the club. You can sponsor runs, wickets, catches or 50s. That way, every time you perform, LHCC receives a donation. If you sponsor yourself, the club as well as the team will benefit from your achievements. Sponsors can sponsor the whole team or an individual.
- Sponsor someone else: If you don’t think you are going to play much, sponsor someone on the team. It need not cost much and it will add a bit of extra interest to the results each week. You could also help encourage a young member of the team to succeed even more.
With Covid restrictions in place, many of our traditional fund raising activities are limited at the moment. This will be a vital initiative to keep the club solvent. We have outgoings of around £2,000 every year and this is not covered by our match fees and low membership price. Speed is of the essence. The season starts on Sunday and the first league match is the following Saturday. So please get your sponsors in quickly so the club can benefit from the start of the season.
