Back to back wins raise survival hopes

Berries batting first made 198-8 with Tom Phipps and Ishfaq Malik both hitting 50s in an innings Stewart Goold described as "well-paced".  Phipps again looked in good form and Malik's uncharacteristic circumspect start soon gave way to some awesome stroke play.

Berries started well, with Malik exerting control from one end and Fensom attacking from the other.  Malik was unlucky to end with just one wicket to his name. South Loughton recovered from 40-4 with a dangerous 5th wicket partnership that gave them a tantalising glimpse of victory before Jay Fensom returned to dismiss their number 6 with a delivery that pitched on middle and leg and hit the top of the off stump. Skipper, Sunny Bharambe, who picked up three wickets with his attacking off-spin, removed the 5 bat on 75 who was well caught by Malik.

Despite requiring just 36 from the last 12 overs, Sunny's bowling was backed up with some excellent death bowling from Raj Bharambe and Alex Turner, who picked up 2 wickets, saw Hallingbury home with Tom Phipps catching the last man off of ALex Turner.  The game itself was yet another example of the fantastic spirit that has been in evidence in the HECL Div 4 this season, with both sides playing the game in the right way.

Tomorrow's tables will highlight the significance of the win, especially with Roding Valley winning at home to Nazeing.
