Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v South Loughton II's on Sat 07 May 2011 at 1.30
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets

Match report Fine weather after morning showers meant that a full game was played at Gaston Green between Little Hallingbury and South Loughton II. South Loughton won the toss and elected to field on a wicket that had a greenish tinge.

Little Hallingbury took advantage of South Loughton fielding with 8 despite some excellent seam bowling by U13 M.Shields. His reward was the wicket of Kalyankar for 4, when he was caught and bowled with the home side on 28. Shields displayed considerable strength in standing up to a shoulder charge from his team mate when taking the catch!

Soon afterwards Williams was to retire hurt on 27 with a ligament strain that will see him out for over a month. It was left to Sunny Bharambe to shoulder the burden for the home side making a superb 74 before being caught at long off off the bowling of the economical Evans. Bharambe was supported by Iqbal (18) and Nick Thorne, who was unfortunately run out for 21.

A small wag of the Hallingbury tail from Raj Bharambe (14 not out) and Raj Patil 19 saw the score to 209 all out after 43 overs. Asif Rehman picked up 4 wickets for South Loughton in his 5 overs.

The Hallingbury total looked to be 30 or so runs short of par, especially as Adam Farthing batted superbly to make 50 for South Loughton. During his innings he played some exquisite on drives before falling LBW to Patil for 50. Iqbal bowled with control and venom as usual and was unlucky not to pick up wickets. Sunny Bharambe and Sudip Kalyankar both picked up a wicket each and but for a couple of dropped catches South Loughton could have found themselves under more pressure at the end.

Ultimately, they made it home with 2 overs to spare thanks to some extremely clean hitting from Asif Rehman 63 not out and Allen 21.

The game was played in an excellent spirit and was a fine example of competitive cricket played in a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect. Hallingbury are indebted to South Loughton for their largesse in permitting Ivan Shepherd to sub-field for the injured Williams.

Ivan you were a star! Thank you.
