Chadwell Heath II's v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 27 Aug 2011 at 1.30
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 49 runs
Match report
10 Men of Hallingbury Complete Great Escape
In the final league game of the season a 49 run win was enough to allow Little Hallingbury to climb out of the dropzone for the first time since week 3. Having been a drift at the bottom just six games ago, 4 wins from 6 allowed The Berries to avoid relegation at Hockerill's expense, who's last game was abandoned.
The pick of the Hallingbury batting was Sunny Bharambe who rode his luck at times to hit 79. Stewart Goold hit 31 and Tom Phipps and Chris Arrowsmith both scored 28. A little tail wagging by Nick Budd, Rob Hore and Ed Sainsbury saw Hallingbury to 219 for 8. The wickets were shared equally among Heath's bowlers, with captain Lugg bowling his 10 overs tightly for 36 runs.
Despite being a man short, Hallingbury's 10 men fielded well. Waheed Iqbal 2-24 and James Budd 2-53 started brightly picking up 2 early wickets between them.
Falkingham (40) and Corbin (31) then formed a solid partnership threatening to overhaul Hallinbury's total. Tight bowling by Nick Budd 1-29 applied good pressure on Chadwell Heath, forcing Falkingham to attempt an ill-judged quick single. Gareth Williams and Nick Budd combined to affect an easy run out.
Lacking a recognised 5th bowler, Williams came on for his first spell for Hallingbury. His first ball, a wide half-volley, was edged behind to the impressive Rob Hore to dismiss Corbin. This all but ended Heath's resistance, especially when skipper Lugg was clean bowled by Williams attempting a late cut.
Williams ended with 3-6 from his 4.2 overs (to the surprise of everyone, not least himself) and Hallingbury were able to celebrate their 5th win of the season at the end of a good natured match.
