Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Roding Valley II's on Sat 28 Jul 2012 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report LHCC won by 6 wickets at home. The day dawned bright and finally a hard pitch drew the best cricketers to the fore. The wicket and pitch were well prepared before Roding Valley (RV) arrived. The fixture last year was a keenly fought affair with LHCC narrowly losing in a 500 run testy match. This year the visitors batted first.Initially well restricted by Budd senior, and Raj P with accurate, consistent bowling. The fielding was of a normal poor LHCC standard owing to age and lack of practice of the participants. A change of bowling saw RV accelerate to 122 at the 21 over juice break.A score above 200 looked achievable. LHCC's luck turned with Ishfaq Malik dismissing their incredulous captain admist restrained LHCC celebrations. RV continued in their attack only mode, but now catches were being held by LHCC,and run outs being calmly executed following incomprehensible calling methodology from the visitors. The tail offered little more and with good bolwing from Ishfaq and Sunny, they petered to 156 all out somewhere inside 45 overs. Arguably the best LHCC captaining decision of the season was a late switch to install Amit Kalyankar behind the stumps. The hitherto hidden animation and instruction he brought to proceedings inspired his team mates, menaced the incoming batsmen, and will allow the incumbent Club captain Gareth to join the outfielders. After tea the Kalyankar brothers put up strong resistance to some good fast always threatening bowling on a hard pitch. Keeping your wicket was enough, runs secondary as LHCC knew RV would tire in the heat and their heads drop as the ball softened. Sudeep spooned a catch back,Nick Thorne rotated the score and pressurised the fielders, before misjudging a full toss, whilst Amit grew in confidence and carried LHCC's most ominous threat as overs ticked by. Joined by Sunny, who enjoyed the harder pitch, the pair were employing decent straight drives, measured pulls ,sharp running to amass the 157 runs. After juice break Amit accelerated his scoring with truly exquisite timing for large sixes in directions of mid-off,mid-on, midwicket, square leg. Adding a decent array of 4's through the covers ,fortunately reprieved with one very poor RV drop at mid off. Amit was unlucky to be lbw at 90 when hit coming forward near the thigh to a fast rising ball. At 138-3 at 31 overs the match was as good as won. Sunny took over the scoring ,Rowley added nothing also lbw, at 150-4 this allowed new recruit Martin Dodd to score the winning boundary with a good looking square cut despatched to Wendy's hedge all along the floor. 160-4 inside 40 overs.Well done. The visitors disappeared silently and promptly to enjoy the trip back down the M11, whilst the yellowing sun played on the crisping poplar leaves and drying oatfileds beyond Gaston Green, already teasing at autumn, but colouring a rare golden ending for a home victory.
