Batting first on a drying wicket the Berries failed to capitalise on the short boundary until the end of the innings thanks to some accurate Essendon bowling. Gareth Williams made 57, with Whitehead being the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3-21.

Oli Turner picked up the wicket of Phillips in the first over of Essendon's reply. Meekumbs then took control and finished on 88 not out, but not before Turner picked up a second wicket and Jay Fensom nabbed his first wicket for the club.
