Hockerill II v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 30 Aug 2014 at 1.30 pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won LHCC WON BY 33 RUNS
Match report
A close finishing game which Hallingbury had to win to sustain a chance for league IV survival. Hockerill were already relegated but would relish playing on the 1 st team wicket and causing an upset.
Losing the toss , on a damp pitch Hallingbury's innings got off to a poor start at 24/2, 56/4 with 2 bottom edged played ons and 2 indecisive shots from captain Sudip and run maker Ishfaq. With A. Turner steadying the ship reaching 50 at 69/4, the Hockerill bowling loosened up.Turner reached 85 with support from Rae Long (40), and the well timing Fenson (59),so were able get over the 200 marker. With a jet lagged Goold (14) and useful swings from not outs Rowley (14) and Astwood(11) it looked like 252-8 would take some beating.
Hockerill's batting talent is unevenly distributed ,and their captain ,keeper and opener were key to their chances. A sharp cover catch to Sudip saw off the left handed opener, whilst the other 2 went on, and on. Just pegged behind the run rate, but with injudicious drops from Hallingbury , 91 off the final 12 was possible from these 2. Naturally man of the match Fenson bowled Winder, and impressively caught Captain Curtis in the gloaming at 208/3. Thereafter the home side lacked the hitting power to dispatch Hallingbury's tight enough bowling to finally muster 219/7. A good win for Hallingbury. By Sunday morning, the victory felt only slightly less flat than the IPA served up in the bar the evening prior.
