Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Stocking Pelham on Sun 31 May 2015 at 2.00pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 3 wickets
Match report
It was cold and damp at Gaston Green, but Hallinbury's hopes of a first Sunday victory burned bright with the arrival of Stocking Pelham. Thorne won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat. With Goold and Rowley in the team, what else would you do?
The openers safely navigated the early exchanges and were starting to express themselves when Rowley (19) was bowled by the opposition skipper. Goold pressed on in partnerships with Phipps (17) and Thorne (12) but at no stage could you say the innings was motoring. Eventually Goold (64) passed 50 but was caught as he entered the agricultural phase of his innings. The tail fell away a little, however Allen (17*) made an impressive debut hitting a mighty six.
Stocking Pelham started strongly with Palf taking the aerial route to the boundary on frequent occasions. Featherstone nipped in with the first wicket, but once the opening bowlers tired, Pelham started to make hay. Palf was dropped twice off decent chances and with that Hallingbury's hopes faded. The return of Shah sparked a dramatic collapse. Watt took two catches behind the stumps and a bullet throw from Goold on the boundary saw Berthoud run out with a direct hit. Shah excelled with 5-50, but, despite 4 golden ducks, Pelham were steered home by the impressive Palf (99*).
