Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Wethersfield on Sat 23 May 2015 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won 114 runs
Match report
Two unbeaten teams in the League, something had to give.
Hallingbury lost the toss and were put in to bat. The usual lusty blows from Turner and frantic scampering from Goold saw Hallingbury through to 36 before the first wicket fell. After that, there were a series of starts from Phipps and Malik, but every time we tried to press the accelerator, we lost a wicket. Unlike the Hallingbury of old, we made sure we batted out the 45 overs with Stuart Dobson hitting his first 50 for the club. His partnership with Williams (17) steadied the ship leaving Luke Rumble to wrap the innings up with a scorching boundary.
189 felt competitive, but not invincible. When we started to bowl, Astwood and Fensom simply didn't allow Wethersfield a foot in the game. While Jay kept them on the back foot, Rich swung the ball beautifully, varying his pace and continually worrying the stumps. After he had bowled Wethersfield's Miler for 12, Rich went on to rip out the heart of their batting. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 were all clean bowled in a career first hat trick. By the time his spell was over, Wethersfield were 32 for 6 and the game was pretty much up.
Stu mopped up the tail, Luke looked like he might make it as a bowler if he could sort his run up out.
All in all, a pretty good day. Hallingbury are now the only unbeaten team in Division 5 and Rich has taken 17 wickets in 4 games.
