Ilford Catholics III v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 29 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won 55 Runs
Match report
On a cloudy and wet afternoon most of LHCC couldn't get to the ground on time as there was a accident on the A12. As a result, stand in, skipper Williams lost the toss and we were put in to bat. Our innings begin badly, only 7 runs where on the board when we lost our first wicket. Goold was LBW to Singh. However, that could have been a blessing in disguise as it brought stand in skipper Malik to the wicket. Ish played his finest ever innings for the club, showing sound defence and glorious attacking shots against an impressive attack on what can best be described as a sporting wicket. Alex Turner also batted superbly in a partnership that ultimately took the game out of Ilford's reach. Alex's pull for 6 to the longest boundary at mid wicket was matched by Ish's magnificent 6 over extra cover. Ish went on to post 115 not out, his first ever ton for the club. However Alex's 61 was almost as valuable and helped set up a challenging total of 248. In the rain and drizzle, the Ilford reply began. The opening bowlers of Fensom and Astwood started brightly with only of a couple of runs coming off the bat in the first few overs. As the Ilford innings fell away, there were some grumbles about fading light. At one point it looked like we weren't going to finish the game off as it was getting too dark to play. However, after clean bowling the dangerous Quereshi for 34 Fensom demonstrated his versatility by reverting to spin and mopping up the tail. In near darkness, Hallingbury closed out the win that saw them unbeaten for the whole season. Played 18, won 17, abandoned 1.
