Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Theydon Bois II on Sat 30 Apr 2016 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 74 runs
Match report
First League game of the season.
Despite the recent cold, wet spell, the ground looked amazing and when Sudip won the toss, he had little hesitation in batting.
Most of the top order made a contribution, but whenever we started to build a partnership, we lost a wicket. Theydon were a little under strength, but we seemed unable to capitalise, at one point falling to 111 for 5. It was Gareth and Jay that really got the innings going, both taking the attack to Theydon and increasing the rate significantly. We punished the 5th and 6th bowlers and set up a daunting total of 267. I am not sure we have ever hit that many runs on the opening day of the league season.
The Theydon reply never got going. Rich was back in the groove wih 2 early wickets and Jay was as miserly as ever. Theydon looked to consolidate rather than attack our total and fell increasingly behind the rate. Luke's outswingers picked up 3 wickets, while Sudip and Will kept the run rate down.
We weren't our usual selves in the field and dropped a few too many catches. That said, it got pretty cold once the sun went down and the light was fairly poor by the time the ball was thumping Rich and Stuart in the chest rather than nestling in their hands.
Man of the match:Jay Fensom for one of the most aesthetically pleasing innings you are likely to see at Gaston Green. Special mention to G. Williams - wicket preparation, tea with scones and first 50 of the season.
