Bishops Stortford IV's v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 07 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 111 Runs
Match report
Not even Mumford and Son could stop us this week.
Another scorchio Saturday and a pretty routine victory against a weakened Bishop's Stortford side that featured a number of father and son combos, including the namesakes of the Grammy Award winning, London based warblers.
We batted first with Goold (78) and Turner (78) revisiting their traditional tortoise and hare act. 143 was put on for the first wicket and we were over 200 before we lost our second. We looked like posting an intimidationg total, but the Stortford spinners, including Alex Mumford, started to get a grip and we fell from 207-1 to 245-5.
But Stortford weren't ready for Rumble and super Luke took the attack back to the opposition with a quick fire 58 that saw us reach a daunting 319-5. Death- bed Williams ensured Luke ran every run available and we took tea feeling fairly chipper.
The Stortford response was impressive. Alex Mumford and Vernon Brown kept the run rate at 5 an over and, well though Nick and Richard bowled, we could not break through. Stortford reached 75 without loss, but as is often the case, it was a poor ball that saw the end of Brown, caught nicely by Amit as the ball deflected off the back of the bat. Luke and Raj chipped in with wickets and Sudip was as controlled as ever. Stortford never looked like chasing our total and the game petered out as Stortford batted for points. Raj summed up the mood by deciding he needed to be somewhere else and left with a few overs to spare.
Man of the Match - super Luke. We needed his bowling and he put in a tidy shift, while his extraordinary leg side hitting meant we had a match-winning total. Equally important, this was a club victory. We had a number of players missing and Raj, Amit and Nick all stepped in to ensure we fielded a far stronger XI than Stortford could muster.
