High Roding II v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 28 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 4 Runs
Match report
On a cloudy afternoon, LHCC won the toss and batted first. Williams(56)and
Turner(22) started well putting on a partnership of 43 for the first wicket,
until Turner got out caught behind by H.Pilcher(1-28). LHCC got to drinks only one wicket down with the score on 133-1. With Goold and Willams batting nicely, they put on a second wicket partnership of 117 for the second wicket. But then Hallingbury had a terrible batting collapse which involved poor shot selection, bad calling and a run out. LHCC eventually got to a pretty disappointing total of 231 all out.
High Roding started their pursuit of the run chase with A.Duke and G.Murray opening up with a stand of 23 for the first wicket. Fensom and Astwood were very economical in the opining overs of the innings. We kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. But a stand of 84 runs for the 4th wickets got High Roding close to our total. As the overs ticked by the tension on the field was mounting, causing LHCC to panic and this lead to missed run outs and some dropped catches. But some nice, tight bowling from Fensom(4-46)Rumble(1-36) and Malik(1-37)kept the run-rate and the score down.
With 2 overs to go, Roding needed only 16 runs. A fantastic over from debutant Sarwar, saw him concede only 5 runs and he also kept a cool head to run out Roding's Skipper Richard Pilcher.
The final over bowled by Malik was typically accurate and sent LHCC over the line. And with that our unbeaten run in the league continues.
MOTM goes to Jay Fensom for his brilliant bowling particularly his second spell which was: 4-1-7-2.
