Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Sawbridgeworth III on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 6 wickets

Match report For the first time in over a decade near neighbours Sawbridgworth visited Gaston Green and recorded a an improbable first, bringing club legend Ted Levey with them for his first visit to Hallingbury in his 54 year career.

Having won the toss Sawbridgeworth elected to bat, with tight bowling restricting them to 23 of the first 10 overs. Matt Birch demonstrated that he has not lost any of his class and built an innings that combined patience and ruthless punishment of the occasional wayward delivery. With run rate up to 4.5 an over after drinks loose delivery from Rumble (2-16) induced an uppish drive from Birch who was smartly caught by Williams above his head for 79 at extra cover. Rumble then followed that up three overs later, trapping Hyams LBW for 7. Some lusty blows from Griffin (18) briefly threatened to restart the Sawbridgeworth innings until he failed to clear Dobson at straight mid-on off of Fensom. Fensom (3-26) then picked up his second wicket when he bowled Levey for 27 with an in-swinging delivery that hit the top of middle stump, ending the Sawbridgeworth stalwart's patient stay at the wicket.

From that point on, the Sawbridgeworth innings fizzled out with only young Adam McDonald making it into double figures before he too was bowled by Fensom. Malik belatedly joined the attack and picked up the wickets of Youngs and Dale at a cost of just 2 runs. Youngs was clean bowled and Mirza took a fine catch at deep long-on to dismiss Dale as he attempted to hit out.

Sawbridgeworth's total of 164 was far from intimidating but the early wicket of the unwell Turner, caught at backward point, meant Berries reply did not start well. Malik, playing his second game of the season, looked to take the attack to the bowlers. His early innings saw some characteristic plays and misses of a man who lacks time at the middle, but his class burnt through sooner than the early June sun with some exquisitely timed off drives. After Goold was adjudged LBW for 23, Malik went into over drive and played a series of savage shots that enabled him to dominate the bowling attack before he was finally caught in the deep for 52 off of young Harry Bailes.

Amit Kalyankar also made hay before the sun finally decided to shine, playing some beautiful stroke in his unbeaten 63. Surprisingly there were now kamikaze runs when he was joined at the wicket by his brother Sudip, and Berries cruised home with 18.1 overs to spare. This now makes it 26 games unbeaten for the Saturday side and leaves us 45 points clear at the top of Divsion 4
