Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Bishops Stortford IV's on Sat 09 Jul 2016 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 15 runs
Match report
And so the run comes to an end. Having remained unbeaten for almost 2 years, the Saturday side lost in a competitive match played in an excellent spirit.
Stortford won the toss and batted first. Williams and Ealy put on 50 before Rich took the first of two wickets. Stortford then batted round Smith and Foster, scoring at 5 an over without taking too many risks. Every time they tried to up the tempo, we took a wicket. Gareth took a couple of sharp catches however our fielding was not up to our usual standard and Stortford posted a competitive 241 in their 45 overs.
In reply, we lost Amit early, but Stewart and Sudip took the total to 110 which is when our problems started. We lost 3 wickets for 7 runs and went from a position of comfort to one of concern. Stu batted nicely for 29, but the middle order faded and at 168-8 we looked dead and buried. However, Rich and Raj played with a maturity to match their advanced years and the score board ticked over nicely. As we reached 218 with 2 wickets left, we were probably favourites, but an amazing catch by Hughes ended a 50 run partnership. Malcolm was then cleaned up by a superb delivery from the annoying Hughes and that was that.
Man of the match - Rich. Bowling figures of 2-46 on a flat track and speedy outfield were impressive. However he proved he can bat sensibly almost steering us to an unlikely victory.
