Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Stansted Hall/Elsenham on Sun 17 Jul 2016 at 2.00pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
At last a lovely summers day at Gaston Green HQ, and the Berries Sunday Village Team took the field against, for all intents, a League side from the two clubs of Stansted Hall and Elsenham. It was always going to be a big ask for the home side and batting first the twin clubs got off to a flyer at 7 an over and continued that way throughout the innings with an impressive ton from the classy young Snelling. Small breakthroughs came with 2 wickets for Featherstone and one apiece for Watt, Thorne and Renals, but still SHE amassed a daunting (for a Sunday village game) 251. Berries set about the chase with gusto as Turner thrashed to a quick 26 in customary style before holing out at midwicket. The only other significant contributions came from Bharambe (45) and Thorne (25) and with such a large target in so few overs it soon became obvious that the draw was Hallingbury's best bet. As the last 20 overs ticked down, so did the wickets and it was left to some dead-bat heroics from Peter Watt, Behagg and Featherstone to secure a tense draw at 9 down as the sun set beyond the cornfields. Behagg seemed particularly pleased with the Berries great escape and on leaving the field promptly dropped to the turf for 10 push-ups Misbah-style before enjoying a well-earned beer with his fellow competitors. Thank heavens for the old-fashioned 'timed' game - as a fixed overs contest this would have been a non-event.
