Epping Forresters v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 24 Jul 2016 at 2.00pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 55 Runs
Match report
Epping Foresters have 2 HECL league teams and their first IX are unbeaten at the top of division 2. With several of these players involved they were always going to be tough opposition and so it proved. In a 40-over game Foresters elected to bat first and scored quickly throughout on a flat wicket with a fast outfield with two of their top three retiring on centuries. They amassed a relatively unassailable 270 with a bit of help from some average Berries bowling and sporadic fielding. After a tea which simply rates as 'best ever' (they served a cheeseboard ; there was apple pie an custard !!) Berries set about the mammoth chase with accustomed gusto and were going well while Turner (60) was still there and still held out some hope as Thorne and Watt put on 50 together, continuing with Raj's 27, but the steady fall of wickets led to the run-rate falling away and the only consolation was the remarkable sight of debutante Rory Panton smashing 3 sixes into the forest and celebrating like a striker whose goal has just won his team the cup ! Great entertainment indeed. LH finished on a very respectable 215 and with the youngsters starting to contribute on a regular basis I feel we can expect some success if and when facing similar Sunday village cricket standard opposition. Yes, I'm banging that drum again !
