Hockerill II's v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 20 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Berries travelled to Beldams Lane for a local derby with Hockerill IIs. Showers were promised and arrived during the Hockerill innings, but we only lost 2 overs from the game. Richard picked up the wicket of Francis, who produce a Goold-like shouldering of arms and saw the ball nip back onto his off stump. Rich was unfortunate to end up with only one wicket for meager 34 runs he conceded, as Pearce survived an LBW appeal as he two lifted his bat aloft only to see it seam in and canon into his pads.
Alexis "Viv" Jagdeo was dropped once on his way to making an unbeaten 101, though Stuart Dobson (0-39) thought he had trapped him infront of middle and leg early in his innings. It was left to Captain Marvel, Sudip, to pick up the three other wickets to fall, with Pearce (34) playing on, Hudson (39) caught by Tom at mid-on and beating Hobart for pace and striking the botton of middle stump.
In reply to Hockerill's 215-5, Berries made an assured start, taking 11 on the first over with Amit cutting to the cover boundary and then pulling a maximum over mid-wicket. Having made 16 he played, what I am assured was, "One (cut) too many" and was caught by Pearce for 16 off of Francis (1-48) Tom and Stewart put on a stand of 44, before the former fell for 37 to Dar ending another aesthetically pleasing innings. Stewart made 39 before he fell just before the drinks break.
It was Sudip who played the Captain's innings, hitting 93 not out off just 70 balls to guide Hallingbury to their third win of the season. His innings was a almost faultless and combined power with exquisite timing as he caressed the ball silkily through the covers and lofted perfectly placed drives over mid off to push the field back and see us home with 47 balls to spare.
