Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Abridge on Sat 27 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report It rather looks like visiting teams have got wind of Sudip's double-headed coin as the opposition won another toss and elected to have a bat on Saturday.

Things did not start particularly auspiciously as yours truly dropped Padfield whilst he was in single figures early on. I console myself with the fact he only went on to score 80! In truth the Abridge openers batted well putting on 83 for the first wicket before Wood was caught by Stuart Dobson for 58 off of Ishfaq (3-43). Ish bowled well in his first game back, his first 4 overs going for just 2 runs and removed the Abridge skipper without scoring with the score still on 83. Padfield and S Cross (47) put on 109 for the third wicket before the opener played a loose shot a lobbed the ball to Luke at backward point. A stand of 28 between Cross and Freeman threatened to post a large total, but after Rich caught Cross at fine leg of Sudip, wickets began to tumble. Luke's second spell saw him pick up 4 wickets in 12 balls conceding just 4 runs into the bargain. He removed the dangerous Freeman with a "disguised" slower-ball that was chipped to Sudip at cover, Tom caught Sharp at square mid wicket, Deal was caught behind and Curtis was clean bowled playing around a straight one. Abridge finished on 239 for 9.

In reply most of the Berries top order got starts with 5 of the first six making it to double figures. Freeman (3-44) was probably the pick of the Abridge bowlers, but Picceri (2-29) and Dave Cross (3-43) ensured that we lost regular wickets and found ourselves at 157-8 needing 83 from the last 14 overs. With Sudip and Jay at the wicket there was always a chance and after seeing off the last of Freeman's spell the pair batted confidently and shared an unbroken partnership of 86 to see us home with 20 balls to spare. Sudip finishing on 36 from 49 balls and Jay with an impressive 55 from 38 deliveries. Not bad from a number 10!

The win leaves us joint top of Division 3, alongside Potter Street. Next week sees us on the road as we visit Willingale.
