Match report Expectations in life are funny things. Weakened sides at the start of the season meant we thought we would be staring down the barrel, last week and this we should have won comfortably and fell short.

Having restricted Thaxted to 223 for 5 we put ourselves in a good position. Jay 0-40 bowled an excellent opening spell, as did Sudip (0-39). The pick of the bowlers was Ish who picked up 2 wickets for just 23 runs in his 10 overs. He bowled Martin for 20 and shotly afterwards had the dangerous Gent caught by Amit Singh for just 21. Stuart Dobson bowled well again, taking 2 for 39.

After losing Stewart earlier to a seaming delivery, partnerships between Amit K and Tom and Amit K and Ish saw us to 141 for 3 when Amit perished LBW to Wood for 66. Ishfaq went soon afterwards for 47 and as the run rate edged up wickets continued to fall as we tried to hit a pond softened old ball to the boundary. With 5 overs to go we required 43 runs. Luke gave it his all, hitting an unbeaten 26 from 15 balls, but his 13 off the final over were not enough and we fell an agonising 7 runs short of victory.

We are back at home next week and entertain Essendon.
