Nazeing Common II v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 19 Aug 2017 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 180 runs

Match report Berries quest for a third consecutive promotion and an outside possibility of topping the table continued apace at Nazeing Common today. With both sides missing key players, it was Nazeing who were most depleted taking to the field initially with 9 players before a tenth arrived.

Having won the toss, Nazeing opted to bowl on a wicket that was slightly damp after recent rain. Phipps 26 and Wain 14 made an assured start and took full advantage of the gaps in the field to see Berries to 42 in the 7th over before Tom was bowled by the impressive Jack Rivers (1-45). Nazeing skipper and stand-in opening bowler, Hall (2-39) bowled accurately and with the pace off made it difficult on a drying pitch that did not really come on to the bat. Malik's first 30 runs included just the one four as the lush outfield made for a lot of running. It also belied the fireworks that were to come as he accelerated to his 100 off 91 balls, reaching his ton with a six pulled to long leg.

After Culpin was unfortunate to be run out of a dropped catch, Fensom enjoyed a 73 run partnership with Malik from just 39 balls as he played some cultured shots that pleased connoisseurs of the square drive. Malik eventually fell for a fantastic 153, but not before a better than a run a ball partnership of 63 with Dobson (18*). Rowley chipped in with cameo of 13*

In reply Nazeing opened with Hall and Mike Rivers. Hall (38) led the way with some lofted drives, whilst Rivers stoically refused to succumb to Fensom's opening salvo of pace bowling. It was the first change at the Pavilion End that brought the first wicket. Dobson's cleverly disguised delivery induced a cross-batted shot and took Hall's middle and leg-stumps. In exposing the middle order, it allowed Astwood to run amok on a pitch that was still enabling some seam movement. Finishing on 4-21 from his 10, Astwood will consider himself unfortunate that surer handling did not allow him to collect more scalps. (No names will be mentioned, they know who they are.)

Wayne with 17 offered some resistance alongside Rivers senior, but when the opener was finally removed for a stubborn 38 by Culpin (2-9) the tail failed to wag. Nazeing finished on 125 all out and we return to Gaston Green for our final home league game of the season against league leaders, Thaxted.
