Essendon v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 02 Sep 2017 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Our final league game of the season saw us travel to Essendon, needing a win to secure a third successive promotion. Having won the toss, Ish inserted the opposition. Stuart D (1-48)struck early, removing the dangerous Meekcoms for 8 with a ball that took the top of his outside edge to be gratefully pouched by yours truly.

The next 12 overs of the game belonged to Essendon, with some powerful hitting from Cannon who quickly reached his 50 and pushed the score to 125 at the first drinks break at 15 overs. After drinks, Cannon skied Richard (1-40) and was caught by the begloved one over his shoulder. Phillips (18) followed the next over when he was caught by Luke running around from deepish mid-off off of Sunny (1-59). A 78 run partnership from Bradbury and Bryceland steadied the Essendon ship, but it was at a much more sedate pace and the run rate fell from 8 an over to 6 before Bradbury was run out for 43 by Luke after good work in the field by Sunny and Ish (2-29) bowled Bryceland for 36. A further run out by Amit Singh and another wicket for Ish restricted Essendon to 253 off their 45 overs.

In reply Sunny was elevated to number 2 (because he has a social life apparently - oh and he can bat in case Shilpa reads this). He made a run a ball 66, including 10 fours and a six to the longest boundary before he fell in the 21st over with the score on 101 for 3. Stuart made 36 before he was run out when he was batting with Ishfaq (short odds on that event occuring)and when Ishfaq fell the same over, Berries require 104 from 15 overs. Some lusty blows from Luke in his 24 ball 25, kept us in the hunt, before he was bowled by Saunders (3-40).

When I joined Dave at the crease, we did a little of the maths, and with 48 balls to get 58 runs we set about running Essendon's legs off. Dave finished (still grinning) unbeaten on 40 and myself on 27 in a 41 ball partnership that saw us home with room to spare and elevation to Division 2.

It has been another great season under Sudip's and Ishfaq's leadership and three consecutive promotions is an achievement the whole club can be proud about. We all know there is still room for improvement and look forward to the challenge of the 2018 season.
