Harlequins v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 10 Jun 2018 at 2.30pm,
Match was Drawn
Match report
On a sunny humid day Hallingbury loss the toss and were asked to field at Farnham. It certainly made a pleasant change to bowl on a wicket where bowlers were offered some assistance, both Luke Stedman and Sam Watt bowled impressive opening spells against good batsmen with no luck at all
The first double bowling change saw Nick Thorne and Malcom Featherstone make excellent use of a wicket which suited their bowling style bowling with accuracy and being backed up by good fielding by all the team throughout, this saw them rewarded with wickets. Nick in particular beat the bat on a regular basis whilst Malcolm was extremely economical.
Hallingbury continued to bowl well with the pair bowling lengthy spells with wickets falling thorough out which was against a strong batting line up
Nabeel bowled two overs at the end with Ron Borland taking a stunning catch in the deep. Harlequins finished on 161 -8 from 42 overs, the fielding was tight throughout the innings with the opposition scoring less than 4 runs per over on a very large outfield
After a very good tea Hallingbury lost Raj for 0 and nearly Phillip Rowley too when he mishit a head high full toss edging the ball into his head! This seemed to have an effect on him as he produced a innings of concentration with good shot selection, carrying his bat till the end.
Dylan hit a rapid 14 before we lost another wicket to a run out leaving us on 39-3, however fresh from his long bowling spell Nick Thorne strode in and with Phillip took us to 111 for 3, with victory within their sights, before the dreaded nelson saw him adjudged LBW for a well constructed 47
Hallingbury then suffered a mini collapse leaving them on 115 for 7 with 10 overs left. The shutters came down as Phillip and Brigadier Block (Stedman senior) saw out the remaining overs against a turning ball to earn Hallingbury a well deserved draw
An excellent game played in the right spirit with any result possible in the end with a good team effort shown against a stronger side
