Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Hallingbury Place XI on Sun 01 Jul 2018 at 2.00pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 25 runs
Match report
On a boiling hot day the skipper won the toss and despite the later temptation of a superb tea chose to bat first
The openers put on 29 before Phil Rowley was yorked by an in-swinging delivery closely followed by Sam Watt who went the same way
M Schilder scored 51 before he holed out leading to Nick joining Raj, who had earlier warmed up by scoring runs in a six a side tournament. The pair took advantage of another soul destroying bowling wicket which unfortunately saw consistent low bounce throughout the day to produce an array of attacking shots all over the ground, fortunately the adjoining field had been harvested saving valuable time and lost balls, with both batsman scoring half centuries, prior to the declaration 15 minutes before tea with the undefeated pair putting on over 150 runs and setting a new club record for the 4th wicket of 161 runs (previous best 154 runs set in 1982!)
After a great tea LHCC managed to drag themselves into the field, the first ball of the innings saw Phil take a sharp catch in the gulley off Luke who tried his best during a tight eight over spell to extract life from the wicket. Nabeel picked up another early wicket leaving the visitors 7 for 2, however this brought in the number 4 who put on runs with the opener, Grant Clemence, who carried on scoring throughout the innings at a rate to keep his side in touch. As the overs ticked by Karim picked up a vital wicket with Sam also picking up two wickets at key moments, however Hallingbury Place continued to go for victory throughout their innings, with a strong batting line up, on a fast outfield. The fielders kept going saving runs including good stops by the two junior members of the team Maria Stedman and James Schilder plus two vital run outs at key times from Karim and Sam, with 4 overs left only 24 were needed before a wicket from Raj, who was pressed into service following Nick picking up a strain and pulling up whilst bowling (to much tea perhaps?) left Grant Clemence in with the last man. Raj then produced a Yorker to bowl him out for 93 leaving them just 25 runs short of victory and Hallingbury with a win in a tight game that could have gone either way
