Great Hyde Hall v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 22 Jul 2018 at 2.00pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 18 runs
Match report
On an extremely humid day LHCC travelled the short distance to the picturesque setting of Hyde Hall who play a thirty over game where every player bowls at least 2 overs with the batsmen retiring on 25 and returning if required
Hyde Hall won the toss and bowled first, LHCC had a slow start only scoring 11 runs in the first 9 overs against a tight bowling attack, however Nabeel accelerated scoring 25 before the experienced pair of Thorn and the returning Ian Gibson put on a valuable partnership. Useful contributions followed from Luke Stedman and Harvey Platt both scoring boundaries (Luke playing a straight drive for four which he certainly did not learn from his father!). The innings closed on 120 for 9 which we thought may have been 25 runs light
Hyde Hall raced away to 43 from 7 overs before Alex Dixon Smith made the break thorough bowling the opener, LHCC then pegged back the batting which saw LHCC field three young fast bowlers (boding well for the future) who all bowled well (Luke, Alex and Jo Ash), supported by Ben Lea bowling an impressive spell of leg spin and taking a wicket with a delivery that turned taking the edge. Young Harvey Platt then took a wicket before his father (playing for the opposition) hit him for 2 fours, Harvey had the last laugh bowling him next ball! All was not over as the next two batsman took Hyde Hall to 100 before Stedman senior grabbed a wicket, this brought back the skipper who had previously retired, however Nick Thorn produced a great delivery to take the last wicket leaving LHCC winners by 18 runs
This was a very enjoyable game played in a great spirit which could have gone either way in a even contest between bat and ball in hot, humid conditions with LHCC's side containing six young players all of whom displayed very good cricketing skills and contributed with runs/wickets/good fielding skills.
