Stocking Pelham v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 29 Jul 2018 at 2.00pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
LHCC travelled to Stocking Pelham on a day where the weather had somewhat changed following the heat wave due to a 20 degree drop in temperature, persistent drizzle and at times heavier rain
Against a strong Stocking Pelham side LHCC fielded first in a 30 over game where bowlers could bowl a maximum of 6 overs
LHCC bowled well all day with Luke Stedman cleaning up the opener and starting with 2 maidens, wickets fell regularly with Malcolm and Dave Jones applying the brakes during the middle part of the innings and also picking up wickets
Fielding was good despite the conditions with Harvey Platt, Peter Watt and Mara Stedman all saving valuable runs, the dangerous Patmore was bowled by Tom Wharton and Nick Thorne picked up 2 wickets at the end aided by a catch in the deep by Gareth before the innings closed on 116-8 which was an excellent effort by LHCC
After tea the innings did not get off to the best of starts with Tom shouldering arms and being bowled in the first over. This brought in the skipper who with the score on 25 decided to for a quick single only to be run out with a direct hit. Unfortunately wickets then fell quickly with an impressive leg spinner bowling who had played against LHCC in their league match the day before, after a mini collapse LHCC ended up on 40 for 5. Martin Stedman joined Gareth Williams who had been batting at the other end in the constant drizzle and played a supporting role as Gareth timed his innings to perfection seeing off the leg spinner and another threatening bowler. With regular singles which kept the score ticking along as boundaries were difficult to score on a slow wet outfield the pair put on over 50 runs before Gareth took 15 off one over including 2 sixes followed in the next over by a scope shot four from Martin (which amused his teammates watching in the pavilion). The innings was finished off with a bye, seeing Gareth dominating the whole innings with 93 not out from a total of 117-5 and a really good result in a close enjoyable game played in the right spirit by both sides
