Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Eastons on Sun 05 Aug 2018 at 2.00pm

Match report
On another boiling hot day with little breeze LHCC fielded first against a very strong Easton's side. Luke Stedman made an early breakthrough by bowling the opener with an in swinging Yorker for a duck. This brought in the skipper who survived an extremely strong lbw shout off Luke. who bowled well (despite the ongoing comments by the umpire) with no luck supported by Dave Jones, Easton's then begun to put on a partnership. Another strong LBW shout against the skipper was declined off Luke (the only doubt being what part of middle stump the ball would have hit), this led to the batsmen trying to take a single only for Malcolm Featherstone to throw down the stumps and run out the other batsmen. Runs started to flow until Dave picked up a wicket, this brought in another useful batsmen who put on a large partnership with the captain, fielders struggled in the ever increasing tropical temperatures which saw a couple of dropped catches in the outfield and various misfields, however the bowlers persevered until the introduction of Nick Thorne saw one batsmen stumped for 59 and the skipper finally dismissed for 101. LHCC then pegged things back at the end with Malcolm picking up 2 late wickets including a very sharp catch by Dave at slip, until the declaration 10 minutes before tea on 238-7
After a superb tea by Mrs Jones, Tom Wharton and Zac Matthews put on a very good skilful 50 run partnership for the opening wicket with shots all round the wicket, before Tom went for one shot to many, Tom Phipps was then very unfortunate to be given out LBW next ball, Nick subsequently run himself out and two quick wickets followed including Paul Wharton being bowled around his legs first ball by a turning leg spinning delivery. Zac and Tom Legrove steadied the ship before Tom was dismissed followed by the unfortunate run out of Zac who made 46. Another quick wicket left LHCC eight wickets down with around 12 overs left. Martin Stedman and Dave Jones survived until Dave was out with 6 overs left. Malcolm strode to the crease with the opposition confident of picking up the last wicket. However despite the best efforts of the bowlers the pair clung on with Martin maintaining his concentration despite the ongoing attempted distractions by the opposition to see out the last over for a very well deserved draw.
