Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Thaxted on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 13 runs
Match report
One of the best match so far in terms of fierce competition we have in the Div. 2 was played in a good spirit. One more hot day and one more time LHCC won the toss and asked opposition to field first. Alex Turner and Amit K. started well with 6.5 runs per over and gave us a good foundation to work on further with partnership of 52 for first wicket. After Alex departs cheaply, Two men in form, Amit and Ish took the score further enjoying their batting and making sure plenty of spectators won't be disappointment with their beautiful cricketing skills against one of the best bowling attack. Thexted was trying every possible way to break this partnership and had a luck in their favour when Amit was judged LBW. Promoted to number 4, this was now Jay's turn to shine and entertain the audience with perfectly timed shots, so much mature innings either ground or clean Arial shots or running between the wickets! Jay and Ish put 59 for the 4 wicket, soon after both departed and now it was Tom Phipps turn to get the form back and play some nice square and off drive and make oppositions sweat more in hot sun. With 7 Wickets in hand and we reach to 200 in 35th over, we decided to all over attack on tired oppositions and this paid out well. We scored our last 92 runs in 10 overs!
LHCC knew this is challenging total and early breakthrough would put pressure on Thexted, Jay and Stu Dobson stick to the plan and J.Martin departed on duck, trying to hit swing delivery but only found Safe hands of Tom in Gully. Jay was again exceptional with ball in his first spell with not giving any chance to Aron Gents to free his arms. This work out good in favour for Dobson again and trying to cut him square, it took the edge and G. Williams took superb one handed catch to finish the Opposition's Skipper innings! Dangerous Webster and L. Matthews who is arguably a leading run scorer in the Div 2 now, join in the middle with accelerating the scoring but again Fabulous Googly by Sudip which Webster charging in and thought to put in the sky , the ball only found in G. Williams gloves to take the bells out quickly leaving him stranded! L. Matthews still in and getting aggressive was dangerous sign but now it was Rich's turn to counter him and joins the party. Rich took the challenge and dismissed him in the extra covers boundary when tried one more lofted drive supported by Jay by fabulous running low catch! You only get a half chance to dismiss the fine players and we hold those catches , at least right time, I would say! what a day Jay had in all three departments!
As Thexted got long batting line up and only way to get a runs by arial root, specially when it was 8 per overs required in last 8, and we were down to 10 man ( pre planned event for S. Dobson) W. Freeman decided to go after every ballers until Rich back for his 4 spell of the day and get a sweet sound of Timber on a leg cutter which was last hope of Thexted! Jay' 3rd and 4th spell was absolutely perfect and only conceded 5 runs which left Thexted 12 balls and 27 runs to cross the line at the end but only managed 13 runs. We Won by 13 runs! Over 500 runs were scored with 14 wickets fall, it's a perfect, balanced sporty wicket any captain would love in this difficult drought like situation, Thank you G. Williams!
Some positives were, we used our bowling well in hot weather, Less freebie runs,(Byes, leg byes) deep batting line fired up, Good work behind the stumps, exceptional fielding, special mention Nabeel who tirelessly fielded and been vocal to encourage bowlers!
We never panic even though at one stage it looks Thexed was well on target but we came back strongly and converted 'those' half chances to snick back into the game. We are 4th in the league currently and keeping performing like last two weeks, we are serious contender again to reach top two, so nothing different and keep performing same, Woodford wells next week at home!
