Match report During a world cup plagued by heavy rain the sun made a rare appearance as we hosted Thaxted. After losing the toss Hallingbury were put in to bat, and made a solid start through Tom Wharton and James Hutcherson. The pair batted well, putting on 73 for the first wicket before Hutcherson fell for 31. A few overs later Tom Wharton was back in the pavilion for 45. Unfortunately this led to a calamitous collapse by the home team. Despite the efforts of Thorne (27) and Goold (12, who even hit a 6, yes really!), we limped from 90-1 to 154 all out at tea.

After tea Luke Wharton picked up 2 quick wickets (one of which was a snorter of a short ball) to give Hallingbury the perfect start. The openers bowled well and at the other end, the other Luke had 2 key decisions turned down (including a great catch behind the stumps by Martin, and a stone-dead lbw). Malcolm and Nabeel then came on, creating a couple of chances before Featherstone had their number 3 caught and bowled for 44. Unfortunately this was the last Thaxted wicket to fall as the opposition cruised to victory with time to spare.
We go again next week against Hallingbury Place.
