Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Hallingbury Place XI on Sun 23 Jun 2019 at 14.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 136 Runs

Match report A humid mid-June afternoon saw us play host to the Hallingbury Place XI. After once again losing the toss, we were put in to bat, and made a bad start after a mix up between Sharma and Watt sent the latter packing, run out without score. Captain Thorne then joined Sharma at the crease and the pair went about building a steady partnership. The pair began building a solid foundation for the innings, and Vishal would eventually bring up his 50. The opener gradually began to accelerate, before he was bowled for a well made 88. This brought Luke Wharton to the crease. What followed was one of the fastest, most entertaining half-centuries scored at Hallingbury in recent times as he ruthlessly slaughtered the Hallingbury Place attack. At the other end, the more watchful Thorne would perish just short of his 50- bowled for 44. Jo Ash then joined Wharton at the crease, and he too looked to play his shots. Luke brought up his 50 in no time, and a good, quick-scoring partnership between he (62*) and Ash (16*) saw the pair take the home side to 234-3 at tea.

After tea Hallingbury would make an early breakthrough through Luke Stedman, who had their opener caught by Vishal for just 7. At the other end there were ABSOLUTE SCENES as Malcolm produced a fine catch at 1st slip off of Wharton to remove their number 3. From there the younger Wharton brother caused havoc, picking up 3 more wickets in no time to leave the visitors in serious trouble at 37-5. Nabeel and Jo Ash would then come on, and soon after Nabeel struck, Luke Stedman taking the catch to dismiss the dangerous Wallace for just 7. At the other end Jo proceeded to bowl a good, fast spell, even having an lbw shout turned down (which was definitely going to obliterate middle and leg stump). Will Goold would then come on shortly after the 20 overs was called, and struck in just his second over to remove Clemence for 15. At the far end, Malcolm then had the last man caught by Goold without score, sealing a good win for Hallingbury. This was all the more satisfying given the fact that the wicket we played on lacked both bounce and carry for 3 genuinely quick young bowlers, resulting in numerous half-chances not even reaching the keeper or slips.
Despite this the day belonged to Luke Wharton, who followed up a fine 62* with a 4 wicket haul.
