Little Hadham v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 21 Jul 2019 at 14.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report On a humid afternoon Hallingbury won the toss and elected to field first on a green pitch. The two Lukes opened the bowling, with an early breakthrough by Luke Stedman when Ellis edged behind for a duck (this saw a 'ct Stedman b Stedman' scenario- SCENES!). Soon after he had another wicket when Sims departed for just 5 after chipping the ball to Will Goold at mid-off. Good tight bowling from the opening pair then saw Luke Wharton claim 2 wickets of his own, in a hostile spell he bowled Amos without score, and then took a superb catch off of his own bowling to remove the big-hitting Islam for 7. Dixon-Smith then replaced Wharton and after a shaky start settled into his spell, and was extremely unlucky not to claim a wicket in a fast 9 over spell. At the other end, Luke Stedman was still on, and eventually claimed a third wicket; Oxborrow out caught and bowled for 10, after chipping a slower ball straight up into the air. After a 10 over spell he was replaced by Will Goold, who settled into a decent rhythm after a shaky start, eventually bowling Gilby for 17. After a costly early drop, Wheatley (62*) carried Little Hadham to 129-6 at tea.

Tom Wharton and Karim then opened proceedings for the visitors, with both looking to play their shots in difficult batting conditions. The pair gave Hallingbury a solid start before Tom Wharton holed out for just 8. This brought his brother to the crease who would hit 3 quick boundaries before finding himself stumped after losing his bearings for 12. At the other end, Karim was winding back the clock, mercilessly dispatching the Little Hadham attack. After the loss of both Whartons, he was joined by Andy Renals, and the pair built a good partnership which even saw Renals hit a couple of boundaries before he was bowled for 13. Thorne then walked out to join Karim, who at this stage had hit 15 boundaries. The match was all over after just 24.3 overs when Karim smashed Gilby for his third 6 of the innings.

An excellent day out for Hallingbury, victory by 7 wickets thanks to some excellent bowling from the quicks and Will, and thanks to a gem of an innings from Karim who finished unbeaten on 85. The sight of 3 young fast bowlers certainly bodes well for the future of the club.
