Stocking Pelham v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 28 Jul 2019 at 14.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 37 Runs

Match report Following the recent heatwave, we travelled to Stocking Pelham on a rather damp Sunday afternoon, and batted first. The rules were simple: 30 overs per side, and each bowler could bowl a maximum of 6 overs each.
A rare sight in a Wharton- Wharton opening partnership began proceedings for Hallingbury, with both making a watchful start, putting on 20 for the first wicket before Tom was bowled by Ives for 11. Paul was joined by Thorne and the pair made a cautious start before Paul departed for 16 in his first innings of the season. Dylan walked out to the middle and dispatched the Pelham quick for a 6 before he was out going after one big shot too many. Luke Stedman came and went quickly thanks to an unbelievably unlucky run out at the non-strikers end. Debutante Freddie Dutton joined Nick, and the pair built a useful partnership, putting on 41 for the fifth wicket before skipper Thorne was out for a gritty 29. Luke Wharton joined Dutton, and did his usual thing, hitting a few quick runs before he was stumped for 10. Wickets would then tumble in the final few overs, with Will even hitting a glorious off-drive to the fence. When Samson was run out off of the final ball of the innings, Hallingbury had reached 112- a decent total on a green wicket.

After tea it was Luke Wharton and Freddie Dutton who opened up for the visitors. The pair bowled very well, and were backed up by an excellent effort in the field, before Dutton struck to remove the Pelham number 3 for a duck. Soon after Luke Wharton struck to remove Green for just 5. Luke was replaced by the other Luke, who got his first wicket of the afternoon in his second over, Freddie taking a good catch to remove Thorpe for 16. Will Goold came on at the other end and also bowled tightly. Luke Stedman would then quickly get his second wicket of the innings, courtesy of another excellent catch from Dutton. In the next few overs something special would follow: Luke Stedman produced a triple wicket maiden to claim a superb 5 wicket haul. He had Breed lbw for a duck, and then proceeded to bowl both Berthoud and Ives out for ducks to seal a jug. After a big celebration from the bowler and the team around him, Will Goold capped off an excellent spell with a wicket of his own when he bowled Poyser for a duck. The game was all over when Luke Wharton took a good catch off of Samson to remove the last man.

A second-successive victory for Hallingbury in a game played in excellent spirit. The highlights were an excellent debut for Freddie Dutton, and after being ignored and under-bowled by the Saturday team this season, a maiden 5 wicket haul for Luke Stedman after almost 8 years of trying. We are at home to Eastons next week.
