Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v East Ham Corinthians on Sun 25 Aug 2019 at 14.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
On a roasting hot day we hosted East Ham Corinthians. After winning the toss, we elected to field first. There were 2 early wickets for Luke Wharton but the visitors turned up with a batsman who plays first-class cricket in Bangladesh. As a result he smashed a hundred in no time but despite this, good bowling and some good captaincy saw us bring their run rate down. Luke Stedman came back at the end to claim a wicket but the visitors reached a daunting 250-3 at tea with the conditions very much favouring the batsmen.
After a superb tea, Tom Wharton and Karim opened up for Hallingbury. Through the humidity the pair combined to give us a perfect start- they produced a fantastic opening partnership of 102, with both batsmen smashing the ball to the fence plenty of times. Karim brought up his fifty in the 13th over before he played on for 53. Tom was then out caught behind for a well-made 40. This brought Alex White to the crease, who was joined by Jo Applely. At this stage it was looking incredibly unlikely that a victory was on the cards, but these two clearly had other ideas. After a sensible start the pair began to play their shots, with Alex bringing up an entertaining 50 in the process. Jo also began to find the fence at the other end, and suddenly we needed 100 off of the last 13 overs. Some sensible and attacking batting saw the pair get us to within 30 runs of the target with just 2 overs to go. After the opposition skipper had deemed it "impossible" to get 15 an over, Jo hammered a 6 off the first ball of the penultimate over, and then he and Alex would leave us needing 13 off of the final over of the game. Jo took a single off the first ball which left Alex on strike. After a couple of quickly-run 2s, Alex sealed an unbelievable victory for Hallingbury after clobbering his sixth 6 of the afternoon.
A simply awesome result against one of the strongest teams we play against!
