Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Stocking Pelham on Sun 01 Sep 2019 at 13.30
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost by 2 Wickets
Match report
Having lost the toss we were put in to bat in the final home game of the season. After losing Tom Wharton very early on, Karim and Sam combined to build a solid partnership. Karim brought up another half-century, and the pair put on 104 for the second wicket, beofre Sam holed out for 21. Karim would then hit the only 6 of the innings before he fell for an entertaining 72, which included 14 boundaries. A couple of quick wickets then fell, which left Hallingbury in a spot of bother at 117-5, but the home side would recover through a good partnership between Will Goold and Luke Stedman. The pair combined to put on 47 for the sixth wicket before Stedman played the ball onto his stumps going after more quick runs. Soon after, Goold was out for 22 and Paul perished going for a quick single at the end of the innings. This even resulted in Maria coming in to face a ball! We finished on 170-8, which seemed a fairly good total.
The usual combination of the 2 Lukes opened the bowling for Hallingbury, and there was an early breakthrough in the third over by Stedman, thanks to an unbelievable catch by Luke Wharton at gully. Wharton then had a wicket- his brother taking the catch to leave Pelham 12-2. Paul then came on, and the moon ball wizard struck once again, with Luke Wharton taking a catch on the boundary. Will Goold then came on and got a wicket with his first ball, before twice finding the woodwork in another decent bowling spell. Maria bowled well in her 2 overs and then the openers came back on. After an over from Luke Wharton, Paul returned and Andy took a brilliant stumping with Pelham only needing 4 to win. The visitors wrapped up victory the following over after edging a ball off of Luke Stedman for a couple. Dropped catches proved very costly for us, but this was still a close game.
Next week we are away at Broad Oak, which means the end of the home season.
