Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Thorley on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 29 Runs

Match report 29 runs seems like a straightforward margin of victory, however this was anything but.

Heavy overnight rain meant the match was reduced to 40 overs per side. Hallingbury won the toss and elected to bat. While Thorley had only 10 men in the field they played as though they had 12, bowling accurately and covering every blade of grass, making run scoring pretty difficult.
Amit Kalyankar got the innings underway with his trademark extra cover drive. That heralded a period of comedy running that saw both batsmen stranded at the same end on more than one occasion. Fortunately the ball ended up at the same end and the opening partnership remained intact. That was until Lambert got a delivery to lift and move away from Singh, bringing Tom Phipps to the crease. Tom (37) was not at his fluent best, but still he managed to put on over 100 with Amit Kalyankar (66). Tom's departure sparked a mini collapse and it was left to Sudip (29) and Stewart (35) to get Hallingbury past 200 to a total of 209. We took tea thinking we had made no more than a par score.

Rich Astwood got us off to a flying start when Amit Kalayankar took a fine low catch to reduce Thorley to 8-1. However that brought Cowper and Sydes together with the former swinging effectively to blunt our opening attack. While the bowling changed the result remained the same and we reached drinks with Thorley needing just over 100 from their 20 remaining overs with only 1 wicket down. When Will dropped Cowper off Amit from a lofted catch, it felt as though it wasn't going to be our day. However, next over a mis-timed drive saw Amit sprint half way to the boundary to take a return catch - he didn't trust anyone else. At the other end, Sudip bowled superbly to dry up the runs (8-0-16-2) and the pressure began to mount. When Amit bowled opener Sydes for 52, the game started to move our way. An excellent Yorker from Astwood sent back the dangerous Lamb and from then on we picked up wickets at regular intervals. The rate was never much more than 6 an over, but we were taking wickets regularly. Stu Dobson wrapped the game up with an LBW shout that could have been heard in Hatfield Heath. Our 4th win of the season saw us move up to 3rd in the table.
