Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Potter Street on Sat 15 Jun 2019 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 53 Runs
Match report
Saturday saw the visit of table topping Potter Street. Promoted last year, they are on something of a roll. However we traditionally perform well against them and were hoping for more of the same on a blustery day at Gaston Green.
Sudip lost the toss which meant we were in the field for the first half of the match. With a number of regular bowlers missing, Will Goold opened with Stu Dobson. After a couple of loose early overs, Will gradually found his rhythm and was rewarded with 2 quick wickets, both to catches in the gully. Potter Street kept attacking, but we kept holding our catches and at no stage did their innings get away from us. When the dangerous Gul was caught by Tom Phipps off Nabeel, we felt we could close the innings out before the end of 45 overs. Dave Wain bowled a tidy spell, but could not break the final partnership that added nearly 30 runs, taking Potter Street to 210 for 9.
After tea, we quickly noticed the size of the task in front of us. The bowling was tight and the ball swung considerably. Both Amit’s were watchful, but in the end, Kalyankar’s desire to get on top of the bowling saw him loft a catch to mid off. Then Tom was run out ambling for a third and Stu Dobson saw a thundering cut well held at point. Dave Wain hit a mighty 6 and looked in good touch before inexplicable running himself out hallucinating (his words) that the ball had gone beyond short cover, when in fact it had been fielded and lobbed back to the keeper. Stewart and Sudip dug in and got the total close to 150. However when Goold was out for 33, the innings started to fall away. Dylan hit some fantastic boundaries and was keeping us in the chase, but when he and Sudip fell in quick succession, the game was up. Well played Potter Street, we are away to Farnham next week.
