Match report The hottest day of the year so far is not the day to lose the toss and be asked to field. North Weald attacked from the first ball and we wilted pretty quickly in the 35 degree heat. Jay and Amit kept the runs in check, Luke Stedman grew in confidence after a shaky start and Sam Watt picked up a couple of late wickets. However in between that we used 8 bowlers, bowled 26 wides, turned gentle singles in to 4s and dropped a couple of sharp chances. In the end we were relieved to concede 340 as 400 had looked likely for most of the innings.

When we batted, we looked a bit more like a cricket team. As usual ,Amit Kalyanker took the attack to the opposition. Then Tom Phipps joined him and hit his second, third and fourth deliveries for sumptuous boundaries. We were keeping up with the rate at the 20 over mark but once Amit and Tom fell in quick succession we started to slip away. Jay crashed a couple of sixes and Luke Rumble played as though he had never been away hitting a stylish 49 in front of his watching parents. Once Luke fell just short of his 50, our resistance ended. Quick wickets followed and the game was wrapped up with 6 overs to spare.

Fortunately Sudip is back next week, I have been asked if I can take a rest for a week or so.
