Match report Hallingbury got back to winning ways with a commanding display at Gaston Green this Saturday. Winning the toss and batting first, Amit Kalyankar once again led the way with a superb display of concentration and power hitting. After the swinging new ball had been safely negotiated, partnerships were built with Dave Wain and brother Sudip that helped us reach an imposing total of 257. Amit fell agonisingly short of his hundred, victim of a remarkable running catch by Sargent in the deep.
While the bowling was good, it was our catching that won us the match in the second half. Stuart induced a slip catch from Hussain that was held by Ish at the second grab. Then, two short balls were thumped towards Rich Astwood who held on to both catches and suddenly Stortford were reeling at 30 for 3. Wickets fell at regular intervals. Now it was Richard's turn with the ball and he picked up 3 wickets to leave us in an even stronger position. Joe Ash, making his league debut did not look out of place and was unlucky not to have a wicket with his second ball after an edge behind.
Stortford counter attacked briefly with the impressive Senanayake making a quick fire 60. However, eventually our two best players on the day, Amit and Rich combined to end his stay at the crease.
