Thorley v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 10 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 102 Runs
Match report
As storm clouds hurtled over the UK. LHCC averted a -20 point disaster penalty for a League no show, thanks to a legendary League 2 debut from Keith Behagg and athleticism belying his age from Andy Renals. Jo Ash took 3 wickets , and Amit worked his way to another 90, whilst Sudip marshaled his forces intelligently ,winning the toss and changing the batting order to utilize those players leaving early.
After 14 overs from Amit and Stu LHCC had restricted Thorley to 53 off 14 overs. But without stock overs from Ish and Jay they accelerated to 236 of 32 aided by normal hapless Hallingbury fielding , ceding some 49 extras , and the tightest of calls on wides /no balls, they arrived at 291 for 6 at tea.
Moving on swiftly, LHCC rearranged batting line up to accommodate early departures got off to a shaky start, and with partnerships difficult to secure the middle order was unpicked with a misunderstanding. leading edge , early departure, poor back-foot defence left us at 84-5. With the weather imposing but despite 7 enforced rain breaks Amit grafted on until another run out at 142-6. With Thorley's exemplary fielding, and a deep range of bowling options available the run rate was a severe challenge for LHCC in the gloom. Amit scythed down all 3 stumps with the latest of cuts on 90, and after some lofty blows from Astwood and Dobson [24 not out] , Behagg's defiance 1 not out saw us finish at 8.36 pm on 189-9. 7 points were sportingly extracted for LHCC as Thorley deservedly won.
