Potter Street v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 9 Wickets
Match report
With three matches to go of the league season, we travelled to Potter Street who had recently been crowned league champions. Holidays meant we were only able to field 9 players, not the ideal way to take on the strongest team in the league.
Sudip made an immediate contribution, winning the toss and choosing to bat on a wicket that had received a significant amount of rain. Our first target was to bat for as long as we could and secure as many batting points as possible.
Phil and Amit Singh made a steady start, watching the ball closely and keeping risks to a minimum. However, we found it hard to get the scoreboard moving and Amit fell to a smart catch in the covers while Phil was bowled attempting a pull that did not get high off the ground. Dave Wain looked as good as he has all year and struck a number of boundaries before offering a catch on 29. Stewart and Sudip then took the innings close to 150, before Sudip perished attempting a lofted drive to the longest boundary. Enter Keith Behagg who at 72 is without doubt the oldest league cricketer Hallingbury have fielded. Still alert to the quick single, Keith ensured we got beyond the 150 mark and secured our second batting point.
In reply, Potter Street went about their business with indecent haste. We took a wicket in the second over, however by the 10th over, the game was all but done. The impressive Gul Hassan clearly had an early appointment as he hit the quickest century I have seen scored against us. I’m not sure any of our bowlers would like a specific mention, perhaps best you look at the bowling figures below.
Congratulations to Potter Street who play the game with a smile on their faces and clearly love what they do. Good luck in Division 1, and keep playing with the same spirit.
