North Weald v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team on Sat 31 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 2 Wickets

Match report A terrific game at North Weald this Saturday and a somewhat fitting end to our season.
Both teams went in to the match knowing that a win would confirm division 2 status, while defeat could leave them relying on the Stansted result to see who stayed up.
Hallingbury won the toss and elected to bat. Amit took the attack to North Weald in typical fashion and runs flowed quickly as the home side only fielded 9 men for the first couple of overs. Gareth was looking in good touch and can consider himself unlucky to be given run out in at tight run out call in the 5th over.
That precipitated a series of low scores as Ish, Amit Singh and Tom Phipps went in quick succession. Amit Kalyankar meanwhile reached his 50 with the team total on 65. A partnership with brother Sudip got us in to the game, however progress was halted when a terrific catch off a full bloodied pull shot saw Amit out for 88. Stu Dobson kept up the momentum with a brisk 29 and Will and Phil tried to ensure we batted for the full 45 overs. However, Phil was bowled off an attempted pull shot in the penultimate over and we closed on 206 all out.
In reply, Amit bowled 9 miserly overs on the bounce (and took 2 wickets) as he had to leave early, however Stuart and Ish also made valuable breakthroughs. Sudip shuffled his bowlers, but it was difficult to stem runs on a large outfield and 10 men, none of whom could throw the ball more than 15 metres. At times it was taking a 3 man relay to get the ball back to the stumps. Stuart came back and completed a terrific spell that helped keep us in the hunt and Amit Singh also contributed with the ball. When Phil Rowley took his catch of the season on the boundary, we felt as if it was going to be our day.
North Weald need 18 off the last 2 overs with 3 wickets left. 10 came from the 44th, but when Sudip’s final over went dot, dot, run out, we sniffed our chance. But it was not to be and a boundary off the 4th ball put North Weald back in the charge and the game was won with one ball to spare.
It was a great advertisement for village cricket. Typically, we with didn’t help ourselves with our umpiring and looked comedic at times in the field, but also held some blinding catches (Sudip, Gareth and Phil). Amit batted brilliantly and no one else could quite do enough to help him. Both teams sat together in the pub afterwards and laughed a lot. News came through that Stansted had lost and we celebrated the fact we would both be playing each other again next season.
