Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Stocking Pelham on Sun 23 Aug 2020 at 14.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won by 44 Runs
Match report
Having won the toss, Hallingbury would elect to bat first with a rather strange, "topsy-turvy" batting order. This would see us off to a quick start courtesy of Luke Wharton until he fell for a quick 19. Ash would then join Goold, and the pair would put on 94 for the 2nd wicket, both finding the fence- in particular Ash (95) would soon bring up his maiden 50. Goold would then perish having charged down the wicket to a straight one, leaving Ash to continue to tee off. Bharambe joined and hit a pair of boundaries before totally missing a straight one. The final overs came around and Ash would surge past the 80s and into the 90s. Had it not been for his then batting partner blocking out 2 maiden overs at the end he may have had sufficient strike to reach an unreal maiden century, however it was not to be, and he perished off the final ball of the innings for an exceptional 95. This left us on 188/4 at the break- a decent total.
After a brief rain shower, the Pelham innings began and Hallingbury got a great start when Albon was run out by Thorne for just 5. The batsmen would then cash in until the slower bowlers came on, at which point the innings changed entirely. Having looked fairly secure, Pelham would falter with the rare sight of Tom Wharton bowling bringing about 2 wickets, including a good (eventual) stumping by Renals, and then the beginning of a Featherstone Masterclass. The Hallingbury Lara went on to claim figures of 4/27, which would include an excellent catch by the wicketkeeper and another clutch catch for Maria. Raj then took a wicket, and Pelham would then finish well short on 144/9. Another victory for the mighty Hallingbury!
