Hatfield Broad Oak v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 12 Sep 2021 at 13.30hrs
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 63 Runs
Match report
The penultimate match of the season saw us travel down the road to Broad Oak for a 35 over match. Hallingbury would win the toss and elect to bat first. Wharton and Apperley batted superbly, both bringing up half-centuries before Apperley fell for 57, leaving the score 120-1 after around 21 overs. Despite a couple of quick wickets at the other end, skipper Wharton batted on, finding the boundary some 12 times during his innings. There was a brief cameo from Goold towards the end of the innings, and by the final over Tom needed 13 for a century. Having missed out of the final ball of the innings he finished on 96*, carrying his bat after an excellent knock. Hallingbury reached tea on 185-4.
It was again a Stedman-Stedman combination opening the bowling for Hallingbury, and it didn't take long for this to bring about wickets, with Luke cleaning up Challis early on, before then managing to get Dutton out lbw to leave both Broad Oak openers out. Maria bowled well without much luck, and Malcolm would then come on. Luke picked up another wicket before the end of his spell courtesy of a fine catch from Apperley, and that left Thorne and Featherstone on. Both bowled tightly and would take a wicket each to keep the battle for the most wickets this year interesting. Goold would then come on to bowl and soon took 3 wickets himself at the back end of the Broad Oak innings, including young Ed Stabb (22) who had played a great knock. Strutt and Renals saw out the last couple of overs and Broad Oak would finish 122-8, resulting in a comprehensive Hallingbury victory! A fine match.
