Stocking Pelham v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 23 Jul 2023 at 13.00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Lost By 2 Wickets

Match report Following Saturday's monsoon washout, LHCC travelled north on Sunday to Stocking Pelham for a 35 over friendly followed by a Hawaiian BBQ. Elected to bat as only 5 players were present for the arranged 1pm start, LHCC got off to a sure start despite the rolled out sticky batting surface flattened from the abandonment from the previous day's match. Luke Wharton soon dispatched the new ball into an adjacent copse on his way to a crisply struck 52 for the first wicket partnership of 76 . He was unfortunate to have turned a very wide ball into a flailing edge for the keeper. Also at 76 Rowley's supporting 20 ended, and the scoring rate subdued as Karim 6 struggled with the slow pace and varied bounce on offer. LHCC innings was largely determined by Joe Ash's belligerent hitting as he accelerated to 67 not out, ably supported by Nabeel's 24 which included 3 consecutive fours struck toward the end. Tom B-C added 4 rapidly run singles. Stocking's fielding was above par for a Sunday conceding only 7 measly extras to our total of 180 from the allotted 35 overs.
Stocking started slowly being pegged back by accurate LHCC bowling and regular loss of wickets. So just after juice break with Stocking at 67 for 4 off 19 , LHCC began to savour a victory to go with the BBQ Smoked salmon and marinated chicken. Leaving Stocking requiring over 7 an over with Berthoud ,our President, and Whitfield at the crease. The tranquility of expectation for LHCC was shattered , as the burly Peace had other intentions for the BBQ. Bludgeoning his way to a quick-fire 30 it stimulated Berthoud into accelerating past 50 and unleashing a series of pulls to a creditable 69. This dual onslaught induced all manner of fumbles, drops and casual extras across the bemused visitors , as LHCC lost energy conceding some 23 extras to assist Stocking over the line in the 34 th over to 184. The taste of defeat was quickly replaced by Stocking's generosity to LHCC of a feastful BBQ , as we at least marginally edged the contest of sartorial finery with our Hawaiian attire.
