Match report
This week's League game vs Essendon seemed a tough challenge as they came into the game unbeaten and on top of the table. We chose to go into bat first which, after a wobbly start, quickly became a very good call. Oli Latham came in at 3 and he and Stew G saw off the new ball, with Oli attacking their openers with ferocity. After Stew's dismissal, our resident golden retriever, Paritosh Maithil, came in and hit a fabulous century, and his first for LHCC. This partnership got us to a comfortable 190-3 with 10 overs to go. The undismissable Vimal Soni then entered and his partnership with Paritosh fired us home to a very competitive score of 264-3 off our 40 overs. We needed to set the tone early to win this game, and Sam B-C's sharp runout and caught behind in 2 successive balls in the 3rd over really did that. Dangerous opening spells from Joe Ash and Sam had them 36-3 off 12 overs, and by that point the game was looking comfortable. Good spells from Vimal, Paritosh and Stu kept the run rate down and the wickets slowly coming in the middle overs, with wickets later coming from Sudip K and Tom B-C!! Other highlights included Stu Dobson's quality catch on the long-off boundary, and Joe taking a one-handed, sprinting (lucky) catch, off of Paritosh. This was a complete performance by all members and was a more convincing victory than we would have expected giving the conditions and the opposition, so congrats to all.
