North Weald v Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team on Sun 06 Jun 2021 at 13.30hrs
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 2 Wickets
Match report
A humid afternoon saw us travel to North Weald where we fielded first in a 40-over game. The new-look Wharton-Stedman opening partnership saw pressure build on the opposition's openers, with Luke bowling one of the two with a peach. Thanks to some brilliant bowling and excellent fielding all round, the run rate slowed and soon wickets were taken by Malc and Maria. The sublime combination of ct Luke b Malcolm came into action (twice!), and after some very tidy bowling from Ajith and Luke picking up wickets nearer the end of the innings we looked set on keeping them to a low score. An entertaining bit of death bowling from the skip and vice saw North Weald come in with a total of 118 at tea...
Tom and Sam (who showed us exactly how to master the leave) came out and we hoped to breeze to a victory, but a shaky start saw us lose both early on. When Karim came out we were back on top, witnessing the no.3 hit three huge sixes (bang, bang, bang!) and make a quick 28. However, as more wickets fell and our run rate slowed, the door started to open for the opposition. The pressure rose on the batsmen at the crease but they dealt with it brilliantly; Nabeel and Samson both showed great resilience - the two put on a vital partnership accompanied by some very quick and clever running between the wickets. In the closing overs we lost both, seeing the tail come out and hit quick runs, meaning that it was down to the legendary pairing of Malc and Martin to get 6 off of the last five balls. Malc got a single which was followed by a superb sweep shot to the leg side boundary by Martin for 4 (a site to see!). Needing one run, Martin played the same shot as before which brought up a brilliant away victory for the Berries.
It was a great low scoring game which saw everyone in the team perform, we go again next week away to Thaxted.
