Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Sunday Team v Radwinter on Sun 27 Jun 2021 at 14.00hrs
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 6 Wickets
Match report
On a humid overcast day Hallingbury loss the toss and took to the field in a timed game with a limit of 8 overs per bowler. Luke Wharton started with a hostile opening spell whilst Freddie Dutton bowled a very controlled spell of off spin from the other end (finishing with superb figures of 3-9 off eight overs), early wickets were taken by both bowlers against a strong batting line up, including an LBW that the young spinner initially forgot to appeal for. Another wicket followed which then saw a recovery by the Radwinter middle order, however a tight bowling spell by Malcolm Featherstone helped keep the run rate under control throughout the innings, the return of Wharton then saw a breakthrough when one of the established batsman missed a rather rapid full toss, Sam Watt then bowled a tight few overs taking three wickets towards the end of the innings, including the other well set batsman. The highlight during the closing stages being a direct hit from 40 yards by Wharton junior to run someone out by a good two yards, the innings closed on 159-9 after 43 overs in two and a half hours which saw an excellent effort in the field by all of the Hallingbury team keeping the run rate below four runs per over.
Our openers made an excellent start despite efforts by some members of the opposition to distract them at every opportunity, the first wicket put on over 50 runs before Tom Wharton was bowled, however Joe Apperley continued to bat in a positive manner with a selection of excellent cricket shots all round the wicket and some power hitting. He was joined by Matt Shepherd who hit a entertaining 17 before unluckily playing on, Andy Renals then joint Joe to provide valuable support in a 40 run stand before he was out, after another quick wicket Joe continued to play his array of shots and levelled the scores with a massive six whilst at the same time scoring his first 100 for the club which included 15 fours and 2 sixes , in the very next over Nabeel hit the winning run to secure an empathic victory with over 11 overs to spare
