Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Saturday Team v Hatfield Heath CC 1st XI on Sat 13 May 2023 at 13:00
Little Hallingbury Cricket Club Won By 139 Runs
Match report
On a cool and breezy day we were pleased to get a match at all after a week of wet weather. We lost the toss and were put in to bat which looked like a good decision as we lost Ranns and Latham with only 24 on the board. Amit and Ish steadied the ship and ensued that we scored at a healthy rate. Both made sure the slightly damp outfield did not impact the scoreboard by planting the ball into the field at regular intervals. By the time their stand was broken, we had 170 on the board and were confident of a competitive total. Shauraya Singh made sure we batted out our overs by stabilising the middle/lower order and making 20 patient runs.
Chasing 230 runs, captain Dobson opened with Rishabh and Tom Heighes knowing that a tight opening spell would leave our opponents with a mountain to climb. After 6 tense overs the first wicket came and then the floodgates opened. Rishabh was a joy to watch, varying flight and pace he outfoxed the Heath top order, clean bowling 3 of their batsmen. We fielded as well as I can remember with Luke Ranns (3) and Will Goold (1) all taking fine overhead catches. Amit and Will chipped in with 2 wickets each, while Tom Heighes picked up that rare commodity, a genuine knick well taken low down by wicket keeper Latham. The tail wagged a little for the Heath, but in truth the match was won within 15 overs with the scoreboard reading 18-6. Next week we are away to High Beech.
